Introduction to our Club
The Wednesday Walkers Walking Club is a happy and friendly walking club, based in the Oldham area. We currently have around 250 members representing a broad range of backgrounds and interests but all having a common enthusiasm for walking and hiking and a keen and informed concern for our countryside.
The club arranges 6 levels of walks every Wednesday, with a short break over the Christmas period. The walks are graded; Walk 1 is the shortest, offering walks of approximately 4-5 miles all the way through to Walk 6 which may be about 10-12 miles and much more strenuous. Some walks can be accessed by public transport but most do require the use of cars, however most members are happy to offer lifts if asked. Our quarterly programme gives details of starting points and times.
In addition to our regular programme we arrange coach trips in the summer and a short holiday in the autumn. Towards the end of each quarter we have a shorter walk so that all groups can meet together socially for a potato pie lunch.
The club is run by an elected committee and all walks are lead by our own members on a voluntary basis. Advice about footwear and clothing etc is available on our "How To Meet Us" page but most of our members will be willing to help and advise if asked.
If you have read this far you must be interested so why not be our guest for 3 weeks. You'll be most welcome. If you wish to join there is a membership fee, currently £5.00, for each year starting in January.
